Day 17's topic is technology, which at the moment I am finding very ironic considering I spent most of the day in Muir Woods in San Francisco looking at the complete opposite of technology. I have only been to San Francisco one other time and it was for business and I pretty much walked between the hotel and the convention center for 4 days and then went home. No time to sight see or explore. Well this time I am here for an extended weekend that is capped off by going to my brother's wedding shower. As luck would have it, I have a cousin who moved to San Francisco last fall with her husband and they have the coolest place about 5 houses off of Golden Gate Park - maybe 5 blocks from the ocean and a 30 minute drive into the woods. It is HEAVEN!!
So after landing (OK so my Boeing 767 is technology) and taking the Blue Line air train (OK a bit more technology) I checked in for my rental car - with an actual living human being - and then fired up my GPS (guess what? technology!) to find Mary Rose & Dave's house. After figuring out where to park my ginormous minivan (don't ask - human at the rental counter said it was the only think they had left in my car class!) we headed over the Golden Gate Bridge and up to Muir Woods. The place is stunning and with the light rain falling and the stream rambling by it was insanely peaceful and simple and wonderful to get to wonder around and catch up with Mary Rose. Even the smell of the air as you approach the National Park changes and smells pure and clean and delicious! Why do I live in Michigan again? I didn't realize what today's photo topic was until we got back to her house after dinner and beers at the brew pub on the beach and checking out the old baths along the shore and the original seal rock/island. As she is mixing our next cocktail concoction I report that today's picture is technology and we immediately realize I am probably screwed! My suggestion was to be anti technology and post a pic of the amazing trees. But then we remembered that I shot a picture of this phone booth, because frankly I can't remember the last time I saw a working phone booth, and we decided that this is the perfect picture to represent technology for us today. Yeah it is a throw back and yeah I am in the heart of .com world and silicone valley - but in a world that is bombarded by technology every minute of every day, I like the idea of taking a historical look at technology. Thank you Mr. Alexander Graham Bell for this stroll down memory lane to the technology of yesteryear and the brief respite from today's technological boom. Now if only it hadn't taken me 20 minutes to upload this monster picture file on both Mary's mac and PC maybe I would have been a bit more supportive of modern technology this evening - but no such luck. Of only I had had 2 dimes I would have so made a call on this phone...but alas all I had was my credit card and my iphone
