Will Day 20's topic is Bokah, and yep I had to look it up too. Essentially it is a very abstract photo of light. A lot of the examples I saw were of Christmas tree lights. I tried to take a few at the airport last night. I thought with all the incredible airport lighting on the taxiways and runways and and airplanes I might be able to come up with something cool. But no matter what I did I got a terrible reflection off the glass windows in the terminal and nothing came out like I thought it would. So this evening as I am putting Jack to bed, I remember that he has a lit tree in his room with a bunch of Star Wars ornaments on it that he uses as his night light. So we grabbed the camera and after 3 tries this is what we got. I sort of like it. The single orange light is the lit cockpit of some silly Gunghan underwater ship - the rest of the blue & blueish white lights are the lights of the tree.
When I first looked this topic up I thought it was rather silly, but I have to tell you shooting the tree and the airport lights last night this is something I think I could get into. It is so nice to not have to stress out about getting the proper object in focus and you really can be as abstract as you like. I would love to do this on a street lights at night with the rest of the lights of restaurant signs and shop windows distorted as well. Here's hoping I get a chance to be in a big pretty city at night sometime soon before I am on to my next photography obsession!
